Intensity is a sexy sell.
Rapid results and big promises are always going to be attractive.
Yet why do so many people jump from one intense method to the next?
Because they simply don’t work.
The hare and the tortoise can teach us a lot about health and fitness.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Consistency is key.
The hare in this case is things like:
- Shakes and meal replacements.
- Crash diets
- Extreme low calories
Quick and fast results that come to an end all too soon.
And nobody likes premature do they? 🤭
The tortoise is our slow yet consistent basics.
- Adequate protein
- Plenty of water
- Increasing our activity and steps
- Strength work
- Slight calorie deficit
Things that aren’t as glamorous, yet the things that we can make enjoyable and sustainable.
Eating a slight calorie deficit for 6 months is better than an 800-calorie diet for 3 weeks.
Walking 5k a day for a year is better than running 10k every night for 4 weeks.
3 enjoyable strength sessions every week for a year is better than hitting a grueling bootcamp daily for 4 weeks.
Consistency beats intensity.
